The briefing was held to recommend that children and young people, particularly those aged 16 and 17, should now be vaccinated.

On 4 August 2021, a Downing Street briefing was held to outline the newest step in the Covid-19 vaccine programme.

The briefing was chaired by Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam.

Alongside him were Professor Wei Shen Lim, chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, and Dr June Raine, Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

The meeting including questions from the media.
